Tie Dye Parade, Shape Creation and Yummy Beets!

Tie Dye Parade

We had a really great time on Monday tie dying our t-shirts. We could choose from a number of design ideas – stripes, spirals, swirls. We mixed yellow and blue and made green. The shirts turned out so beautifully. They all look so unique but unite us as a class. Miss Joy presented the shirts to us on Wednesday afternoon and we paraded around the school to show off our amazing creations. Mr. Frank’s class cheered for us and even played some parade march music as we toured through his room! Smiles for miles!

Shape Creations

We have been practicing lots of skills and concepts in math since school started in August. We practiced shapes and number writing a bunch this week. We made triangles and squares using toothpicks and mini marshmallows. We made other shape creations from our own imaginations.

Beets from the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

This week we tried beets for one of our tasting snacks. There were lots of purple fingers and lips and some of us even liked the taste! We talked about the health benefits of the vegetable and I even noticed some children taking them again at lunch time from the salad bar! I sent them home with “beet cheeks” and they thought it was pretty funny! On Friday, we even made some beet prints on paper. Our favorite selection this week was probably the yellow watermelon on Thursday. So sweet and juicy!

Dates to Remember

No school for students on 10/15 & 10/16 for Teacher In-service and Conference Comp Day.

Halloween Parade/Party on 10/30 (tentative) – more information to follow.

Parent Conferences are scheduled for 11/2 and 11/4 after school and into the evening. I will send more information about these dates once we get closer.

Mountain Day

Monday (10/12) is our trip to Mt. Philo for our all school hike. Please remember to send your child with a lunch (unless you ordered one from the cafeteria!), sturdy shoes and a sweatshirt. We will be back at school around 1:00. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns before we go but it is always an awesome day!

Thank You!

Thank you all so much for coming to Open House last week. The children had such a good time preparing for the event. They looked so proud as they showed you around our classroom and school.
