End of the year – bittersweet!

Hi Families,

I hope this slide into summer is treating you well. We have been so busy at school finishing up our end of the year assessments, celebrating our friendships, playing outside, laughing together and reading good books. It is such a bittersweet time of year! But, above all, my heart is so full of pride and joy to see all the growth and learning your children have worked hard to own this year.

Recently, we have finished our last art exploration with Miss Chris which I will send home today. We made still-life collage of fruit bowls. They really look wonderful and I laminated them so you can use them as a placemat! Or not – but they would look really funky on the table each morning!

We have finished all of our end-of-year assessments in literacy, math and writing. The children have really learned so much. Their writing is amazing! Please take a moment to look over the latest packet of writing – opinions. I think that they all can spell the word because now, too! They did a fantastic job of following a model of the genre while adding their own personality to it. It would really set them in good stead to keep them writing over the summer! They LOVE little journals, booklets or notebooks to jot down their ideas so consider grabbing one of those to fill up the next time you are at the store.

This week, we have had a Camping Theme! We have made lists of items we’d need on a trip into the woods, we learned a S’mores song, we played camping Bingo, we made our own portable tic-tac-toe boards, we colored a book about camping, we even “made” S’mores!  Additionally, we visited our Book Buddies in Mrs. Beecher’s class as they practiced for their Science Fair. It was interesting to learn about different biomes in the world.

The Friday Folder contains information about the Summer Reading Program and I am sure there will be more to follow about the Starksboro Book Wagon events, too. Please try to continue reading this summer. The rest of their books from our Book Boxes are in their backpacks, too. You can add those to the home Book Box. Finally, I have made summer work packets if you would like to do those with your child.
