First Full Week is in the Books!

Another fantastic week in Kindergarten!

This week was full of more new routines, new experiences and lots of fun. We had our second trip to Wellness with Mrs. Deguise and music class, too. We went to the Library on Wednesday and heard a story read by Mrs. Mitchell. Next week, we will check out a book to take home. We visited the Art Room with Miss Eliza and designed a cover for our art folder. We shared about how to be a good listener in our classroom and how to be a good friend. We learned each other’s names and had a lot of fun dancing, doing yoga or playing the car game outside when we needed a break. In math, we started work in our Workplace Centers. We explored polydrons, pattern blocks, geoboards/geobands, and linker cubes. Additionally, we began our routines with Number Corner. We talked about what scientists do and drew pictures of ourselves as scientists. We learned some Spanish words and phrases. We met our Reading Buddies from Mrs. Beecher’s class – LOTS of smiles. We played with wooden blocks, matchbox cars, play dough and in the rice table. We learned the good readers work on their “stamina” so they can get better at it. We filled our book boxes with 5 high interest books and even made it to 8 minutes of reading. Finally, we had popsicles and cookies on Friday to help us stay cool and sweet. School is super exciting and fun – and exhausting! I hope we can all rest up and recharge over this long weekend!

How was school today?

I saw this list of ways to ask your child “how was school today?” without saying those words and getting the answer of “good” or “fine.” While some of these questions aren’t my favorite, they are great jumping off points to stir conversation. I think that I will put this list in my pocket as we move through the school years at our house. Right now, Sawyer still wants to tell me everything!
