More Mercy Watson, States of Matter and Valentine’s Love

Mercy Watson – #5

We finished the fifth book in the Mercy Watson series. The children continue to LOVE the stories. They are really connecting to the story elements. They are also practicing patience when we have to stop reading to do other work. We are looking forward to the sixth book and to the first spin off in a series about Leroy Ninker. We will continue with these books after break!

Solids, Liquids & Gases

We have been working on learning about the changing states of matter these days. We had a liquid “race” to see which liquid moved down a pan fastest and made some postulations about why molasses moved so much slower than cooking oil. We put raisins in fizzy water and noticed that some of them “danced” with the bubbles. We froze a water balloon to learn about how liquids hold the shape of their container and solids hold their own shape. We made matter molecule posters using Cheerios. Finally, we explored a few videos on the computer to highlight the changing phases of matter. We have been recording our ideas in our science journals, too. Most of our work with science in Kindergarten is all about practicing the Inquiry process. It is lots of fun!

Thank You!

Thank you all so much for supporting our Valentine’s Day activities! We had a blast and it was so much because of all of your help. We had a great time and it was such a nice way to slide into vacation. Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you and thanks for sharing all of your loving children with me each day.

More Books for the Home Book Box

I am sending home more books to share at home. We have practiced most of them and now you can keep them at home in the book box that came home last year.

Homework

There is a packet to work on if you want to over the vacation. You can send it back or not!
